Adopt an Israeli Senior Citizen
In conjunction with JDC-ESHEL (The Association for the Planning and Development of Services for the Aged in Israel), JCCAFI matches up volunteers with Israeli senior citizens. "There are so many people there who are alone," said Steven Rosenbaum, co-chair of JCCAFI. Participants can correspond via e-mail or "snail mail" and when members of the Phoenix Jewish community go to Israel, they can meet these seniors. Correspondents will also send them fruit baskets or flowers on the holidays "just to let them know we care and to unite our two communities," he said.
